Impact Water Partner Since August 2019
Since 2019, A.N.L.G School Federal Housing Estate in Abeokuta North, Ogun State, has partnered with Impact Water to provide safe drinking water to its 407 students and 9 staff. The result? A school community that feels safer, healthier and more supported.
Read on to hear the impact in their own words.
A Student’s Perspective
“I like the blue tank because it is shiny, beautiful, and colorful. Anytime I am thirsty, I step out from my class and I take water from it.”
— Mutiu Mutiat, Student
Before the partnership, students often relied on friends or brought unclean water from home. Mutiu adds:
“Now, I don’t need to beg for water—it’s always there, and it’s safe. If I drink dirty water, I get sick.”
Another student, Oluwaseyi, shares:
“I used to worry about getting sick from the water I drank at school. Now, I feel safe and can focus on my studies.”
A Teacher’s Perspective
“We no longer have problems with waterborne diseases. Enrollment has been strong since the program started.”
— Mrs. Akinpelu V.O., Health Teacher
Students now bring empty bottles to school just to fill them from the tanks—and often take the water home.
“They don’t roam the school looking for water. Even when there is a shortage of water for them at home, they know that there is always safe water in the blue tank for them to drink at school.”
She also emphasizes the ripple effect:
"Since the students started taking Impact Water, they have informed their parents. This has led to increased community awareness and support for the program."
The Headteacher’s View
“The Impact Water partnership has been a great help to the school.”
— Mrs. Bankole E.O., Head Teacher
Mrs. Bankole notes a clear shift since the program began—better student health, improved attendance, and relieved parents.
“We've seen a decrease in waterborne illnesses and an increase in student attendance. The parents are also pleased with the program, as it eases their burden of ensuring their children have safe water throughout the school day.”
From The Goverment
“The purification process enhances the health of learners. It’s a laudable thing.”
— Mr. Akinleye, Director of Social Mobilization, Ogun SUBEB
Mr. Akinleye oversees 889 schools and sees the broader impact:
"It has reduced a lot of waterborne diseases, and the children are healthier. Once you have treated our children, the community, the environment, the local government, and the state have benefited."
Insights from the Team
If any student has access to clean and safe water, we can be rest assured that they will come to school to learn. It prevents them from being absent from school and actually gives them access to safe and clean water."
— Adegboye Aderemi, Impact Water Field Agent
Adegboye visits 66 schools in Abeokuta North and supports consistent product use through training and relationship-building.
